Nikki’s Notes: Don’t Be Scared To Take Your Business International

Avant Marketeer Nikki Alvin-Smith Offers Timely Insights For Your Marketing Delight

“During my 20 years plus experience in the world of international freight forwarding as an executive at a small niche international forwarding agent company, working with businesses both fortune 500 and small entities seeking to develop their business abroad was part of daily life. We handled everything there was to handle. From import and export shipments and customs work worldwide both air and ocean (LCL and FCL) to full facet banking with complex letters of credit, sometimes as many as 40 per shipment, and charter flights of livestock including horses.

The breadth of that experience has served me well to help advise clients on the do’s and don’ts of finding the right agency abroad to sell your wares, help with product development from a PR/Marketing perspective and brand development to other nationalities with an American heart.

Rolling out your marketing efforts abroad is full of pitfalls but there are always avenues to explore and a best method to achieve great results with minimal risk. Don’t be satisfied with companies like QVC may offer a prompt distribution and marketing option at their European hub but come and go with the wind. The bigger picture if often worth exploration. For example: If you are currently importing products from countries such as China, India, Vietnam, or the EU then you might need to better address issues like quality control and transport logistics and have the PR perspective to troubleshoot issues that inevitably will arise during the course of business.

At the end of the day all the variances and sincere knowledge and experiences that I’ve been fortunate to gain in the international arena mean that if you choose to harness that expertise in how you drive your PR/Marketing strategy you’ll have the advantage over your competition.

I work as a professional content producer for several international companies and collaborate with teams here and abroad. Some of my client’s entities are established in the worldwide arena, and some are just testing their wings for flight.

My work often involves travel, and I can confirm one hundred percent that travel truly does broaden the mind. My experiences in the equestrian marketplace as a Grand Prix competitor/clinician; horse breeder and exporter/importer fine livestock; importer and buyer for wholesalers/retailers and product design experience for tack and equipment have all made a huge impact on how I approach the marketing and development of a brand.

Taking your business international can certainly be intimidating, no matter what type of business you own and I know first-hand how hard it can be to not just initiate the new markets but to see the process through to a multi-million dollar turnover result.

If you are currently developing your brand internationally or are looking to expand your knowledge of where dollars can be saved and how best the company can navigate the complexities of new markets, please feel free to reach out to me.

I am always happy to throw in my experience as an international freight forwarding agent, marketing entrepreneur as well as professional content writer and PR Marketing specialist for my clients’ benefit. All my writing packages include a ‘team member’ privilege that facilitate not just provision of creative content but also consultation on any aspect of marketing prowess.

The more knowledge you have about crossing the continental divide, the better your business will do and the less angst you will encounter. I invite business owners and marketing teams both here in the U.S. and worldwide to utilize my talents to help them embrace the potential of a global footprint for their brand.

I’ll be visiting Europe and the U.K. this summer and Fall and am available here in the U.S.A. as always to address any marketing needs, both as a PR/Marketing strategist and specialist.”
