The Humane Society of the United States is sponsoring the Appalachian Trainer Face Off, Aug.17-19, at Winfield Riding Arena in Winfield, West Virginia. The event is a competition at which trainers demonstrate what they have accomplished working with rescued horses at risk of slaughter. It is the largest equine event in the state with a mission of providing training and good homes for at-risk horses.
Keith Dane, senior director of equine protection for the Humane Society of the United States, will be speaking Aug. 17, to show the organization’s support for the event and will be available for interviews.
“The Appalachian Trainer Face Off is one of the largest trainer exhibitions in the country. The Humane Society of the United States is grateful to its organizers for providing this venue to showcase the trainers’ abilities and the adoptability and versatility of rescued horses, and we’re happy to be in attendance at the event,” said Dane.
The HSUS supports events that reward trainers who contribute their time and talents to help rehabilitate at-risk horses and make them suitable for adoption to good homes. The organization also offers a horse rescue training program, Forever Foundation to help increase the rescue community’s capacity to rehome horses and works diligently nationwide to enact laws that protect horses from cruelty, including slaughter.

We fight the big fights to end suffering for all animals. Together with millions of supporters, the Humane Society of the United States takes on puppy mills, factory farms, the fur trade, trophy hunting, animal cosmetics testing and other cruel industries. Through our rescue, response and sanctuary work, as well as other direct services, we help thousands of animals in need every year. We fight all forms of animal cruelty to achieve the vision behind our name: a humane society.
