Julie Goodnight’s very personal experience with traumatic brain injury drives her to bring awareness to prevention and safety, and she has again joined forces with Troxel Helmets to reduce head injury for riders.
“My 23-year-old son had a nearly fatal motorcycle accident, not wearing a helmet,” says Goodnight. “After weeks in the hospital and a marathon surgery to reconstruct his face, his long road to recovery began. More than 10 years later, we still deal with his brain injury every single day. Most, if not all of this, would have been prevented by a proper helmet.”
With Troxel, Goodnight endeavors to continue her mission to normalize the use of helmets in equestrian sports and model safe riding habits.
“I had the honor of working with Troxel’s founder, Dr. Richard Timms, an ER doctor who saw so many unnecessary head injuries, and shifted his focus to accident prevention,” says Goodnight. “I was with Dr. Timms at the first helmet safety summit about 20 years ago when Mips® technology was first introduced, and it was very intriguing to me.”
Cutting edge Mips® technology is an exciting new integration in Troxel’s Terrain helmet, changing the landscape of rider safety.
“We know from scientific research that the brain is particularly sensitive to rotation,” according to Troxel. “In the event of an impact, the helmet technology provided by a Mips® safety system is intended to help reduce the impact of rotational energy on the head by enabling a relative movement between the head and helmet.”
With this new partnership, riders can now use the code GNIGHT15 to receive a discount on all of Troxel’s helmets at TroxelHelmets.com.
“I have two bike helmets, two ski helmets, and three riding helmets, which illustrates my priorities, but only my Troxel equestrian helmets have Mips® technology so far,” says Goodnight. “It’s awesome to be on the cutting edge of safety technology, and I hope this idea spreads fast!”
