The Foundation for the Horse has now opened its Young Investigator research grants for 2024.
Since this program’s inception in 2019, The Foundation has awarded $496,771 for 26 projects at nine universities in support of exceptional science conducted by emerging researchers with the aim of having careers in equine research. This program is funded thanks to Foundation donors, including organizations like Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation, supporting equine research.
The program particularly encourages applications for pilot or preliminary studies that could lead to larger, significant research projects. However, small, standalone projects will also be considered. According to a Foundation survey, research interests include musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, and metabolic diseases, laminitis, racing safety, and the development of new technologies like stall-side tests. Nonetheless, research proposals on any topic are welcome, and all investigators are encouraged to apply.
To support this mission, The Foundation for the Horse will provide grants up to $20,000 for cutting-edge research being conducted by young investigators at accredited institutions. Applications for proposals demonstrating innovation, scientific rigor, and a clear potential to improve equine health outcomes are open until June 30, 2024.
