AHC President, Julie Broadway announces the following changes to AHC Board of Trustees:
- After 10 years (2012-2022) on the AHC Board, including 3 years as board chair, Jim Gagliano of the Jockey Club will step down from the AHC Board. The Jockey Club has appointed Kristin Werner to fill this vacancy.
Werner serves as Senior Counsel for The Jockey Club. In this role, she works with other members of The Jockey Club’s legal team as well as each of The Jockey Club’s for-profit subsidiary companies and not-for-profit organizations on a wide variety of contracts and legal issues. Kristin is also involved with The Jockey Club’s industry initiatives related to the welfare and safety of the racehorse and aftercare, including the Equine Injury Database, the Thoroughbred Incentive Program and the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance. Kristin is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and is involved with numerous industry committees including the United Horse Coalition (UHC), the Welfare and Safety of the Racehorse Summit and the Racing Officials Accreditation Program.
- After 13 years (2009 – 2022) on the AHC Board and serving as the AHC Welfare Committee chair and UHC chair, Dr. Tom Lenz has retired as an AAEP board representative. AAEP has chosen not to fill this vacancy on the AHC Board at this time.
- And sadly, AHC mourns the loss of trustee Dr. Glenn Blodgett, representing AQHA, who passed on Nov 20, 2022. Dr. Blodgett joined the AHC board in 2015. AQHA has appointed James Clement III, Land Resource Manager of King Ranch to fill this vacancy on the AHC Board.
Both sides of James’ family are in generational family business: his mother’s with Beggs Cattle Co. (est.1876), and his father’s with King Ranch (est. 1853). In his current role as Land Resources Manager for King Ranch, Inc., James regulates the surface and sub-surface, renewable development, and environmental issues for this historic ranching operation. He also advises King Ranch’s renowned Horse Division and is actively involved in the company’s branding and marketing efforts. James currently serves as a managing director of Beggs Ranches, director for Corps Industries, a director of 2020 Consulting, on the Management Council of the King Ranch Institute for Ranch Management, director and Vice Chair of the Resources and Wildlife Committee of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, a director and Chair of the Public Policy Committee of the American Quarter Horse Association, a director of the National Ranching Heritage Center, and an advisory board member of The Land Board and South Texas Property Rights Association.
