In April, The Marley Project will once again host a series of equine activities in South Carolina during the annual Camden Film Week. The event, which was hosted virtually in 2020 and 2021, will take place from April 2nd – 9th in Historic Camden, known as the Steeplechase Capital of the World. Marley Project activities will “book-end” the week beginning on April 2nd with Marley’s Round Up in the infield at the annual Carolina Cup Steeplechase from 9:00AM until 4:30PM. Round Ups typically feature activities for the young and the “young at heart,” including equine games, art activities and short film screenings, as well as opportunities to showcase Equines in Education through Arts Integration. April 9th will feature a concluding Round Up on location during the 2nd Annual Kershaw County Food Truck Fest at Historic Camden, providing an opportunity for the real-life equine Marley to meet his fans. Marley’s human side-kick, equine trainer and clinician Bruce Anderson, is one of the organizers of the annual film week event.
One highlight of the week will be a one day mini-film festival on Friday, April 8th at the Market Hall at Pine Tree Creek, located in the new Revolutionary War Visitor’s Center. The fest is provided by the EQUUS Film and Arts Fest Camden Tour Stop, rolling into Camden for its 7th year. The EQUUS Film & Arts Fest highlights and rewards the diverse and creative efforts of those who pay artistic homage to the horse. Every horse has a story and the mission at the EQUUS Film & Arts Fest is to share those stories, through film, art and literature. Festival Director Lisa Diersen curates a specific catalogue of films each year for the Camden event and this year’s fest will be no different. Diersen will bring an exciting collection of equine films and documentaries that relate to the historic theme of the venue. With a special screening of the new documentary from Executive Producer Robert Redford and Director Steve Latham, The Mustangs: America’s Wild Horses, the Lady Long Rider, film featuring Bernice Ende, and Cowboys: A Documentary Portrait, festival attendees can take a step into America’s past. Other documentaries and films scheduled will include 10 Days, HorseKeeper, and Horses Heroes.
During the fest, there will be a screening of the promo for the Mustang Discovery Ride project, an upcoming documentary produced and directed by event co-organizer Julianne Neal of JA Media Productions. The project follows two young women crossing the country on the American Discovery Trail riding their own self-trained Mustangs to bring attention to the need for adoption of these Living Legends into appropriate homes. Film screenings will take place from 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM. For more information about the film schedule, visit www.equusfilmfestivalcamden.com.
Camden Film Week will feature a welcome addition to the featured activities through a new media opportunity. EQUUS Television will be on hand to cover activities throughout the week with Diana De Rosa, International Equestrian Photo-journalist, and Jacqueline Taylor, EQUUS Television Creative Director, reporting “Live” on location. CEO John Barlett will be onsite to meet and greet while also working on ensuring that all programming is posted on this lifestyle TV channel before the event ends. Viewers at home will be able to tune in to the EQUUS Television Network to watch the action. EQUUS Television programming is available 24/7, 365 days a year as part of their no cost service to the equestrian community. Interviews with winning trainers and jockeys, as well as Camden equine professionals, will round out the coverage.
Further activities during Camden Film Week will include mosaic art classes with Artist in Residence Vicki King; a focus on local artists at the Artist Attic; Wellness Week activities with Health and Wellness coach Roslyn Moore, Reiki coach Laura Thomas and MMCP Coach Rachael Tonsmeire; farm and barn features and much more. For a detailed list of activities and the film schedule, as well as ticket information, visit the event website www.equusfilmfestivalcamden.com. Camden Film Week and the EQUUS Film Festival Camden Tour Stop is presented by The Marley Project with support from the City of Camden and Classically Carolina.
