The Montana Center for Horsemanship in partnership with Montana Western and EQUUS International Film Festival, announces a new presenter to this week’s lineup of iconic horsemen and horsewomen for this week’s Trail Forward conference and film festival.
Rex Peterson, Hollywood’s best-known trainer behind some of our most iconic horse films, will give a special presentation about his life and work with horses. Rex and filmmaker Paul Brozen will also premiere a “work in progress” for “Hats, Horses, Hollywood” about Rex Peterson’s life.
Along with Rex, award winning filmmakers and horsemen, Filipe Masetti Leite and Alberto Redondo will present their top winning films. Filipe’s film, “The Long Rider” is this year’s Best of Festival and Filipe is the world’s youngest long rider. “Horses,” by Spanish filmmaker Alberto Redondo, will also premiere in Dillon this week.
The Trail Forward in Horsemanship Education, presented by the Montana Center for Horsemanship, focused solely on natural horsemanship, offers the nation’s first and only accredited university degrees in natural horsemanship, in collaboration with the University of Montana Western.
This week’s third annual symposium is September 7-9 and registration is still open. This is a public event, and all ages are welcome. Leading horse experts from around the world are part of the conference and include:
Martin Black, Nick Dowers, Bryan Neubert, Joe Wolter, Dr. Stephen Peters, Dr. Yvette Running Horse Collin, equine veterinarian Dr. Gregory Beroza and hoof care professional, Chris Mason and others.
Colt starting and the progression of training and handling of young horses over several days with hands-on experiences will be among the presentations. As Martin Black demonstrates and highlights the physical and relationship training, Dr. Peters will highlight the psychological and “brain” aspects of what is going on in each of the horses and their student trainers. In addition to presenters and hands-on horse experiences, the Conference will feature award-winning horse films entered in 2023 into the EQUUS International Film Festival.
