Join the Special one-time screening of the Oscar-nominated foreign movie
Brooke USA Foundation will be hosting a one-time screening of the critically acclaimed movie “EO” directed by Polish master Jerzy Skolimowski. “EO” is a story about an innocent donkey who travels the Polish and Italian countryside and encounters an array of people – good and bad.
“EO” will be presented on Thursday, September 14, 7 p.m. (with a pre-party and auction at 6 p.m. for sponsors and VIPs), at the Sunrise Theater, 250 NW Broad St, Southern Pines, NC. All proceeds from the event benefit Brooke USA and its mission to alleviate the suffering of working donkeys and other equines, and the people who depend on them in vulnerable communities across the globe. The upcoming screening of “EO” provides Southern Pines residents with the opportunity to view this unique movie which centers on the donkey as protagonist rather than a supporting figure. “I believe that movies should spark dialogue and lead to a better understanding of world issues. It is through igniting our own curiosity that we can create awareness for various causes,” said Mary Warlick, Event Co-Chair, Emmy Award winner, and Southern Pines resident. “Undoubtedly, EO explores humankind – the good, the bad and the ugly – with grit and passion. EO strives to raise the well-being of not only donkeys but all animals. This movie helps us grow, and hopefully, will lead us to share our voices with those that do not have one,” she added.
Jim Hamilton, DVM, Chairman of the Board of Brooke USA and co-owner of Southern Pines Equine Associates, explained that “there are many parallels between EO and the work of Brooke USA. The donkey in EO could live anywhere in the world and reminds us that only humans can make the world a better place for all – animals and humans alike.” Dr. Hamilton added, “our goal is to raise $30,000 from the one-time movie viewing and knowing the generosity of my community, I know we can. I hope to see familiar faces arrive in droves at the screening.”
