Julie Goodnight talks about how to determine what clothing and gear sets the rider and horse up for success–no matter the activity or discipline–in the fifth episode of the “Horse Goals or Bust!” series of her podcast, Ride On with Julie Goodnight.
“Rider attire, horse apparel and accessories–it’s not just about looking good,” says Goodnight. “It’s about form-to-function. Clothes, footwear, tack, equipment–it all serves a purpose, and it’s important to get it right.”
In this episode, Goodnight lays out why it’s important to choose specific attire and appropriate accessories for different activities, functionality, safety, competition rules, and more. Plus, she shares her must-have items to make sure you are comfortable in the saddle all day long.
“Nothing ruins an all-day activity faster than developing saddle sores or rashes,” says Goodnight. “It’s nearly impossible to ride correctly if you’re feeling discomfort, and you cannot make your body do something that causes it pain, so be proactive.”
Goodnight put together worksheets, podcast episodes, and blog posts to take riders through each step of the “Horse Goals or Bust!” plan, plus two Facebook groups to support them in their horse goals. Find all of it at JulieGoodnight.com/HorseGoals.
