Five-Time Olympian and USEF Horseman of the Year Steffen Peters Returns to Dressage Today OnDemand with New Training Video Series

Five-Time Olympian and USEF Horseman of the Year Steffen Peters is returning to Dressage Today OnDemand with a new video series. This will be the first new content from the iconic dressage rider and trainer since 2020.

Born in Wesel, Germany, Peters has trained and ridden a number of remarkable horses, reaching back to his teenage years in Germany when his father bought him a three-year-old KWPN gelding named Udon. Several years later, Peters made the choice to move to San Diego with Udon, working for others for five years, including Guenter Seidel, before going out on his own in 1991. In 1992 he became a U.S. citizen.

While riding in a clinic with the late Dr. Reiner Klimke, Peters was spotted by Lila Kommerstad who would become his first sponsor, purchasing Udon from the Peters family.  With the horse he had brought up from a three year old, Peters saw his dream come true as they were honored to represent the U.S. in the Atlanta Olympics where they won team bronze.

Since then, Peters has gone on to become a dressage icon, producing and piloting several great horses to Olympic, World Cup, Pan Am Games and major Grand Prix wins and results across the globe. Some of his most famous mounts include Akiko Yamazaki’s Ravel and Legolas 92, Jen and Bruce Hlavacek’s Weltino’s Magic and his current mount, Suppenkasper.

As gifted at teaching as he is at riding, Peters’ new series focuses on mindfulness, testing the horse’s sensitivity, accurate transitions and correctness of the walk, all with the aim of helping riders get even more quality. Regardless of where you and your horse are in your riding journey, Peters’ keen eye for details plus insightful tips and perspectives can help horses and riders at every level.
