Honoring Spirit in Equestrian Sport! SAVE THE DATE! March 12, 2023

The EQUUS Foundation was born from love of the equestrian sport and the critical need to provide care to horses after their sport careers are over. In recognition of the role of the equestrian sport in showcasing the extraordinary talent of horses as athletes and in celebration of its 20th Anniversary, the EQUUS Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of its Spirit Award.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to present the inaugural Spirit Award to McLain Ward in honor of his significant contributions to elevating the image and desirability of horses,” said Lynn Coakley, EQUUS Foundation. The presentation will take place on Sunday evening, March 12, 2023, during the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida.

Ward represents all that is exciting, powerful, and enduring about horses and the equestrian sport. He has also helped raise awareness of the mission of the EQUUS Foundation for the past 20 years.

“McLain was there for us when we started”, continued Coakley, “and continues to support us as we’ve emerged as the only national animal welfare charity 100% dedicated to protecting horses from peril and strengthening the horse-human bond.”

The EQUUS Foundation has set an ambitious goal to raise $2 million to double its investment in the equine charities it supports across the United States and double its endowment to ensure that America’s horses live in comfort and with dignity throughout their lives now and in the future.

“We are looking forward to celebrating the magic and power of horses at all stages of their lives with passionate horse lovers in the equine community – many of whom are at the top levels of equestrian business and sport. They exemplify our core belief that horses are our living, feeling partners, worthy of respect and kindness, and not commodities, ” said Valerie Angeli, EQUUS Foundation VP of Engagement.

“We hope you will be able to join us to celebrate our 20th Anniversary and honor McLain,” continued Coakley, “and if you are not able to attend, we hope you will support our efforts IN SPIRIT with a donation.”
