Thanks to Wendy Murdoch, SURE FOOT Equine, and The HAY SOAKER™, Two Veterinarians Walk Away Winners from the AAEP Convention!

Dr. Leah Mitchell of Mitchell Veterinary Practice in Clarkesville, Pennsylvania, and Dr. Lauren Alderman of Irongate Equine Clinic in Madison, Wisconsin, were the randomly selected winners of valuable prizes from the two booths of Wendy Murdoch at the 2022 AAEP Annual Convention in San Antonio, Texas.

Like hundreds of other convention goers, these two veterinarians submitted entries for one giveaway from the SURE FOOT Equine Balance Pad booth and another giveaway from The HAY SOAKER booth. The winners of the separate giveaways were randomly chosen at the close of the last day of the trade show, November 21st.

The first prize, the SURE FOOT Equine Comfort X-Ray Block, was added to the SURE FOOT product line in 2019 at the request of veterinarians seeking a better surface for horses to stand on for radiographs of the foot. It has just enough give to provide some grip to the horse without creating distortion. With a retail value of $209.90 for a pair, one lucky winner is now able to provide horses with a more secure surface, making the process of taking hoof radiographs safer for everyone involved.

“Both of us doctors here have now used the Comfort X-Ray Blocks,” says Dr. Mitchell. “In addition to the horses not slipping on these like they sometimes do with the traditional wood blocks, the Comfort Blocks are lightweight, fit nicely in with the other X-ray equipment, and are just easy to have around for when you need them.”

Over on The HAY SOAKER side of things, another giveaway was held. Booth visitors entered for their chance to win a Master Forage Probe. Available exclusively from Dairy One/Equi-Analytical Laboratory Services, this is a high-quality tool that equine health professionals as well as horse owners themselves use to sample hay for analysis.

“So many horses nowadays need low sugar/starch hay because of metabolic issues,” says Wendy. “We thought a high-quality hay probe to accurately sample hay for NSC testing was the perfect complement to The HAY SOAKER, which then removes those dangerous sugars and starches from hay and makes it safer for these horses to eat.”

With a retail value of $209, the Master Forage Probe is a stainless-steel cylinder with a cutting edge on one end. It comes with an adapter so that it can be attached to a cordless drill for ease of sampling, since the company recommends taking 12-20 samples for one submission. In addition, a calibrated wooden plunger is included to push the samples out of the cylinder once collected.

“There’s four of us doctors in the practice,” says Dr. Alderman. “We haven’t done a lot of hay analysis in the past but now that we have a quality hay probe, we’re excited about offering this service to clients!”

With over 5,000 attendees at this year’s AAEP Convention – and almost 2,000 of them equine veterinarians – Wendy and her team are already brainstorming booth giveaways for the 69th Annual AAEP Convention to be held next year in San Diego, California, November 29th – December 3rd, 2023!
