In January 2021 the American Horse Council established a Diversity/Equality/ Inclusion task force to provide input and feedback to help the equine industry develop and implement programs that will increase diversity and strive to ensure inclusiveness and equality. Task Force participants will share their respective initiatives and efforts with one another, identify successes that can be replicated, share lessons learned, identify possible gaps that need attention, share resources and brainstorm ideas that may be used by individual organizations or the industry collectively.
The Task Force is open to anyone in the industry. To-date the participants include: AYHC, APHA, IEA, AAEP, PATH Intl., USHJA, Purina, USEF, The Jockey Club, Amplify Horseracing, NRHA, and Mulatto Meadows.
The group’s first round of deliverables included a comprehensive DEI business case which is available on the AHC website.
As we embark on 2023, we are reaching out to renew our invitation for other stakeholders in the industry to join the DEI task force. We meet every other month for 1-2 hours. If you are interested in joining contact AHC President, Julie Broadway at jbroadway@horsecouncil.org
Likewise, AHC also formed a Youth Engagement task force to identify ways to attract and engage youth. The group has heard presentation from other industries including National Home-Schooling Association, PGA First Tee, American Camp Association, and others. The group’s first round of deliverables included a comprehensive youth internships and scholarship web page, a survey of Ag educators, and youth career resources.
The Task Force is open to anyone in the industry. To-date the participants include American Youth Horse Council,
US Polo Association, RIDEIEA, US Pony Club, Harness Horse Youth Foundation, The Jockey Club, American Morgan Horse Association, PATH International, National Reining Horse Association, and American Quarter Horse Association.
We welcome new stakeholders to join the Youth Engagement task force. We meet every other month for 1-2 hours. If you are interested in joining contact AHC President, Julie Broadway at jbroadway@horsecouncil.org
