The Montana Center for Horsemanship in partnership with Montana Western will present the 3rd annual International Education Conference — The Trail Forward in Horsemanship Education and award-winning films of Equus International Film Festival, currently in the Call for Entries. The public conference, open to all, will be September 7-9 in Dillon, Montana.
The Center is excited to announce an incredible pairing and collaboration of equine horsemanship expertise with equine science, psychology and biology featuring Dr. Stephen Peters and trainer, clinician, and rancher, Martin Black.
Colt starting and the progression of training and handling of young horses over several days with hands-on experiences will be among the presentations. As Martin Black demonstrates and showcases the physical and relationship training, Dr. Peters will highlight the psychological and “brain” aspects of what’s going on in each of the horses and their student trainers.
Other presenters will be announced in the New Year but according to the Center director of partnerships, Janet Rose, “this is an incredible opportunity for learning horsemanship education from two individuals with combined decades of incredible horse knowledge, in the field, hands-on with a focus on the deepest understanding of what goes on between the two ears of the horse. It’s going to be an amazing opportunity for participants to see the progression and development of young horses and their riders, the ultimate in natural horsemanship and the essence of what we teach at the Montana Center with Montana Western. “The Center and the University have the nation’s first and only Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Horsemanship as well as several affiliated degrees.
In addition to presenters and hands-on horse experiences, the Conference will feature award-winning horse films entered in 2023 into the EQUUS International Film Festival. Among the final judges already selected to review and choose award winning films are Dr. Robert and Debby Miller, rancher Barbara Van Cleve and producer and horsewoman, Michelle Snook. Additional judges will be announced soon.
The Conference & Film Festival are public and open to all, including college and high school students.
