Horse Illustrated kicks off the 2022 holiday season with the debut of its new podcast, Barn Banter. Co-hosts Raquel Lynn and Susan Friedland talk to small business owner Amy Ellison about her holiday rush and equine photographer Shelley Paulson about taking pictures in the Minnesota snow. This episode is presented by Title Sponsor Straight Arrow Products. To hear the first episode, visit www.horseillustrated.com/barnbanter-ep1 or search your favorite podcasting app to listen and subscribe to the show.
Co-host Raquel Lynn keeps her Paint Horse mare, Fira, on her urban equestrian property in Los Angeles, Calif. She has a passion for fashion and an eye for interior design and creating. Raquel is the creator of the popular blogs Horses & Heels and Stable Style. She is also the author of Stable Style: Barn Inspiration for all Equestrians and freelances for a variety of equine publications, including Horse Illustrated and Western Life Today.
Co-host Susan Friedland is a blogger at Saddle Seeks Horse and frequent contributor to Horse Illustrated. The former middle school teacher and fan of equestrian travel has written three books: Horses Adored and Men Endured, a horse lover’s dating memoir; Unbridled Creativity: 101 Writing Exercises for the Horse Lover; and Strands of Hope: How to Grieve the Loss of a Horse. She’s a proud OTTB mom to her gelding Knight.
This month’s first guest, Amy Ellison, is the founder and artist behind Hunt Seat Paper Co. “Christmas is my jam,” she says, as she describes her creative process. Her collection of equestrian gifts and greetings are inspired by everyday horse life, and Amy has single-handedly grown her product line into hundreds of styles sold in over 300 retail stores worldwide. Every product is lovingly hand-packaged, sustainably made, and shipped by Amy herself.
This month’s next guest, Shelley Paulson, is an award-winning equestrian photographer based in Minnesota. Find out the reality behind all those beautiful “horses in snow” photos and hear about her new dunskin Morgan filly, Maisy Joy. Shelley has combined her deep love of horses with her passion for photography to create a thriving full-time career focused on commercial and editorial work, as well as mentoring other equine photographers. See her work at www.shelleypaulson.com.
Raquel and Susan wrap Barn Banter’s debut episode with the ASPCA Right Horse adoptable horse of the month, Faith. Click here to learn more about this affectionate Thoroughbred mare with a big, floaty trot.
