The National Snaffle Bit Association recognized some of the top names in the industry Sunday evening during the NSBA Honors award banquet. The association’s newest Quarter Million Dollar riders, Horse of the Year, Hall of Fame, Jack Benson Award, President’s Award and Youth of the Year were all named during the ceremonies.
Quarter Million Dollar Inductees
Tracy Fenney, of Ocala, Florida, was one of three Hunter Jumper riders to join NSBA’s Quarter Million Dollar Club in 2022. A formidable competitor at the World Equestrian Center-Ocala, Tracy enjoyed success with several mounts but one of the crowd pleasers she showed was MTM Apple.
Santiago Lambre is a Brazil native and Ocala, Florida resident and joins the Quarter Million Dollar Club in 2022. A dominant rider at the World Equestrian Center-Ocala, Santiago racked up wins with Dingeman, Comtess 202, Chao Blue II, All Horses In Cava and Centano Van Aspergem. Santiago and his brother, Rodrigo, develop show jumpers in Mexico before they become part of the show string in Ocala.
Sharn Wordley, of Wellington, Florida, was the third of the three Hunter Jumper riders to join NSBA’s Quarter Million Dollar Club. Sharn has consistently been at the top of the leader board at the World Equestrian Center-Ocala with such horses as Gatsby, Casper and Valentine Car, winning the WEC Grand Prix, Stella Artios Grand Prix and the Capital One Advisors Grand Prix.
Blake Weis, of Pilot Point, Texas, is one of two All Around Open riders who joins NSBA’s Quarter Million Dollar Club in 2022. He has proven his mettle on a variety of world champions, Superhorse title winners and Horse of the Year award winners, including Snap Krackle Pop, Lover Treat Me Good, Dun ItOn The Range, VS Heart Stopper, Aint Gota Lot, Dont Think Twice, Daddy Doesnt Know, Cool Cruzen Lady, Hot Lopin Lily, Snap It Send It and Snippity Snap.
Bruce Vickery, of Pilot Point, Texas, joined Black Weis as the newest members of the Quarter Million Dollar Club from the All Around pen, earning most of his lifetime earnings in Trail and Western Riding. He has consistently been at the top of the NSBA point standings in Open Trail and Western Riding. Just a few of the horses he has seen success with include Zipschocolateimpulse, Signature Absolute, Suddenly Im Cool, Extremely Good Stuff, Cutelicious, Pretensioso, Strawberri Wine, Wouda Coulda Shoulda, Investin A Goodbar, Eye On The Ball, Wine After Whiskey and Whats The Good Word.
Show Horse Of The Year – Hot Lopin Lily
Double registered AQHA and APHA mare Hot Lopin Lily has only been showing for two years, but created quite the seasoned show career in a short time. She earned more than $34,000 and 108 points to win the title in Western Pleasure, Trail, Western Riding and Performance Halter Mares. Among her accomplishments include champion, A Sudden Impulse Three Year Old and Older Maiden Trail; NSBA world championships in Green Junior Western Riding, Color Green Trail and BCF Futurity Color 4-6 Year Old Non-Pro Trail; champion, The Championship Show All Age Green Trail; and champion, Southern Belle Breeders Five and Under Open Western Riding Futurity at the AQHA World Championship Show.
Hunter Jumper Horse Of The Year
Diamont’s Legacy, 13 year old Oldenburg stallion, owned by Derek Petersen, was named the 2021 Hunter Jumper Horse Of The Year. Derek bought ‘Frito’ as a six year old from his friend Marcus Winthal, and showed him for a few years before a short-term injury sidelined him. Derek’s daughter-in-law, Jordan Petersen, stepped into the irons and never looked back, becoming a formidable team. The duo showed at 15 weekends at the World Equestrian Center’s Winter, Summer and Fall series of shows in 2021, earning five championship titles at WEC-Ocala. They accumulated $106,575 and 85 points to earn the Horse Of The Year title.
Youth Of The Year
Ian McFarlin was named the 2022 Youth Of The Year, and earned a $4,000 scholarship in addition to a $500 donation in his name to the charity of his choice.
Ian has volunteered more than 550 hours to various community projects, but spends the majority of his volunteer time with Hand And Hearts For Horses, an equine-assisted therapy program in rural Georgia. With a sibling who is on the autism spectrum and also has a mild form of cerebral palsy, Ian understands that ‘differently-abled’ doesn’t mean ‘less-abled.’ Ian is passionate about recognizing and encouraging differently-abled peers and feels horses are one of the most valuable tools available to help all humans learn, grow and heal.
Leo Barbera President’s Award – Bill Price
NSBA Past President Bill Price received the 2022 Leo Barbera President’s Award from NSBA President Janet Gunn. Bill has been a go-to source for historical questions and also helps determine protocol in unusual situations for both NSBA and the National Open Horse Show Association, where he serves on the board of directors. Many of NSBA’s policies and procedures that are used today were developed during Bill’s tenure as president, and he has continued his longtime involvement with the association, providing legal and procedural advice, serving as a member of the grievance and hearing process and the Judges Committee.
Jack Benson Award – Lynn Campbell
NSBA annually awards the Jack Benson Award to a member who unselfishly gives of his or her time to promote NSBA and its mission and create greater interest in the pleasure horse industry. Lynn Campbell, of Pittsboro, Indiana, received the 2022 award.
Lynn became involved with NSBA when she was asked to help organize a memorial trophy presentation for the late Rodney Miller at the Tom Powers Triple Challenge Futurity. She would soon be recruited to serve on NSBA’s Longe Line Committee, served as a tri-chairman for the Breeders Championship Futurity, and since March of 2015, she has served as the development director for the NSBA Foundation. There, she has grown the Equestrians With Disabilities program and shepherded fundraising and awareness for the Foundation’s programs that has allowed the development of new services such as Tomorrows Horsemen, the Coaches Summit and the Youth Of The Year and Susan Scott Memorial Scholarship program.
Hall Of Fame, Individual – Doug Carpenter
The late Doug Carpenter was inducted into the 2022 class of the NSBA Hall of Fame. He literally wrote the book about the Western Pleasure horse in 1996, in which he presented his ideas and concepts for the sport. Doug was known for his knack for developing great horses and matching horses and riders. He loved a great horse of any discipline, and his knowledge translated to success in the Reining, Cutting and Working Cowhorse industries as well as in the Thoroughbred industry. Doug earned $70,890 in NSBA earnings, #30,839 as an NRHA Open Rider and $89,927 as an NRHA horse earner.
Hall Of Fame, Breeding Stallion – Dont Skip Zip
AQHA stallion Dont Skip Zip joins the 2022 Hall Of Fame class as the Breeder Horse Stallion inductee. Foaled in 1990 and by Zippo Pine Bar and out of Shes Shes A Ten, Dont Skip Zip was a multiple Open and Non-Pro Futurity champion and earned the AQHA High Point Junior Western Pleasure Horse award in 1994. Skip’s offspring include 432 performing foals who have earned more than 80 AQHA World, Congress and European champion and reserve titles. His foals have earned AQHA, APHA, and PHBA championships, and more than one million dollars and more than 123,000 points. Just a few of his famous offspring include Cool Lookin Lady, Cool Movin Lady, Dont Skip This Lady, How Bout This Cowboy and Dont Skip My Good Image.
Hall Of Fame, Breeding Mare – Ill Be Dun Won It
Ill Be Dun Won It joins the NSBA Hall Of Fame in the Breeding Horse Mare category. By Zips Poco Pine and out of Dun Won It, and bred by George Countryman Jr., Ill Be Dun Won It earned an AQHA Superior award in Western Pleasure before becoming a top producing broodmare for owner Vickie Kent. The mare produced 27 performing foals, who between NSBA, AQHA Incentive Fund and World Show earnings have earned nearly $450,000 and 11,347 AQHA points, as well as three world championships and six reserve world championship titles. Just a few of Ill Be Dun Won It’s offspring include Won It On A Impulse, Ill Be RV Radical, Won Good Version, Won Vital Code RV, Won RV Lopin Machine, Won RV Ridin Machine and I Will Be A Good RV. Her foals have performed in Open and Non-Pro events from Showmanship, Trail, Horsemanship and Halter to Hunter Under Saddle and Western Pleasure from Rookie to Level 3.
Hall Of Fame, Show Horse – A Certified Edition
The AQHA gelding A Certified Edition, affectionately known as Winston, has been named to the NSBA Hall Of Fame in the Show Horse category. Winston began his show career with Mark Stevens and Susan Steele and was a reserve Congress champion. He became a force to be reckoned with when he teamed up with Kristin Mazzarini Martin. Trainers Bruce Vickery, Sue Ellen Kaven, Trisha and the late Carl Yamber, Brian and Darla Lee, Mark Dunham and Jay and Kristy Starnes all helped Kristin with Winston, and they later also worked with Brian Isbell Garcia and Brian Holmes to develop his Pleasure Driving skills. Winston earned eight NSBA Breeders Championship Futurity titles, ten NSBA world championship titles, nine NSBA High Point champion awards, 17 Congress and NSBA championship awards, one Congress Open High Point All Around champion title and three AQHA world championships. The 17-hand mahogany bay earned more than $115,000, and more than 1,100 AQHA points in Open, Amateur and Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle and Pleasure Driving between 2000 and 2010.

Established in 1983, the National Snaffle Bit Association has expanded from its roots in the Western Pleasure discipline to recognize various disciplines and eight breed associations in competition.
