LMU to launch Equine Veterinary Educational Program
Latigo Associates based in Fort Worth, Texas, has been named the consulting agency for the promotion for a new program under development at Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) in Harrogate, Tenn. LMU’s Equine Veterinary Education Program (EVEP) is set to be an historic addition to the university’s nationally-renowned programs of study as it prepares to welcome students in Fall 2023.
“This project is certain to be an important one, as LMU is developing this program with the specific purpose of addressing the shortage of equine veterinarians in the United States,” said principal owner Julie Bryant. “The program will be unlike any offered among the 30 veterinary schools in the United States as it will be composed of a two and a half-year undergraduate program, followed by a four-year veterinary doctoral program with a strong emphasis on equine veterinary medicine.”
Bryant will be working with program co-coordinators Eleanor Green, DVM, ACVIM, ABVP, Dean Emerita of the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, and past president of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), as well as Jim Heird, PhD, past president of the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA), as well as the former director of the Equine Sciences Program at CSU and former coordinator of the Equine Initiative at Texas A&M University. She will also provide support to LMU’s College of Veterinary Medicine headed by Stacy Anderson DVM, MVSc, PhD, DACVS-LA.
“I’m eager to share more about this exciting new educational opportunity for people who dream of becoming a veterinarian, but are looking for a more affordable option,” said Bryant. “Having been involved in the field as a former director of communications for the American Association of Equine Practitioners, I experienced first-hand the incredible work ethic of the equine veterinary community. LMU’s pro-active stance on this issue is inspiring and I’m pleased to play a small part.”
Bryant said more information about the program will be released in the coming weeks and a virtual press conference is being planned for August.
