AQHA Boasts Record-Setting World Show

More than $2 million in purse and prizes was awarded October 28 – November 20 at the American Quarter Horse Association’s championships in Oklahoma City.

 The American Quarter Horse Association’s mega championship event concluded November 20 with more than $2 million in purse and prizes awarded after 24 days of competition at the OKC Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City. The venue hosted four championships in one:

  • Farnam AQHA World Championship Show
  • AQHA Select World Championship Show, presented by Adequan® (polysulfated glycosaminoglycan)
  • Adequan® Level 2 Championships
  • Nutrena Level 1 Championships

All told, the event saw more than 8,500 entries, 1,800 exhibitors and 2,500 horses and awarded 290 championship titles:

  • 104 Farnam AQHA World championships
  • 44 Adequan® Select World championships
  • 85 Adequan® Level 2 championships
  • 40 Nutrena Level 1 championships

 Farnam AQHA Superhorse
Snap It Send It earned her place in AQHA history as the 2021 Farnam AQHA Superhorse, presented by Sundowner Trailers. The 2016 gray mare is owned by Kent Ray Taylor of Mesa, Arizona, and was shown by AQHA Professional Horseman Blake Weis of Pilot Point, Texas. Her breeder is Twylla Lynn Brown from Perry, Missouri. Snap It Send It received a trailer, courtesy of Sundowner Trailers, and an original Lisa Perry bronze. Snap It Send It is by VS Code Red and out of two-time AQHA Superhorse Snap Krackle Pop, making this the first time an AQHA Superhorse has produced a Superhorse.

AQHA All-Around Amateur
Morgan Ratkowski of Pleasant View, Tennessee, earned the title of 2021 AQHA All-Around Amateur. Ratkowski showed the American Quarter Horse Better Buy The Minit. The 2005 bay gelding (Do You Have A Minute-Tickle My Asset) was bred by Kramer/Davis of Reddick, Florida. En route to the all-around title, Ratkowski and Better Buy The Minit earned the amateur world champion titles in working hunter, hunter hack, and equitation over fences and the reserve world champion title in amateur hunt seat equitation. Ratkowski received $10,000 and an original Lisa Perry bronze.

 AQHA Select All-Around Amateur
Kimberly Stewart Burritt of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is the 2021 AQHA Select All-Around Amateur. Burritt showed the aptly named Do You Have A Winner. The 2011 gray gelding (Good Terms-Do You Have A Dream) was bred by Heather Himelick of Connersville, Indiana. Burritt and Do You Have A Winner earned the world champion title in Select equitation over fences, reserve world champion title in Select working hunter and the reserve world title in Select hunter hack. Burritt received a prize package that included an original Lisa Perry Bronze and $10,000.

Even more special awards were presented throughout the event, including the OKC Leading Owner, The American Quarter Horse Journal Reserve Leading Owner and the top AQHA Ranching Heritage-bred horses at the show. Read more about these winners.

This year’s show also featured a variety of exciting events and extra added money:

  • $25,000-added Level 3 barrel racing classes, courtesy of Standlee Premium Western Forage and the OKC Convention & Visitors Bureau
  • $25,000-added working western rail and $10,000 added two-part ranch series, courtesy of Headley Quarter Horses
  • $15,000-added Western Pleasure Challenge
  • $5,000 added 3-year-old western pleasure stakes class, sponsored by Rusty and Katie Green
