Join HHRF on August 7th at 4:00pm (ET) as we delve into the 5 Domains Model. The topic of horse welfare is sensitive, yet vital to ensuring safe and ethical human-horse interactions. Join us for a webinar presentation by Cristina Wilkins, a PhD candidate with the University of New England, Australia, and delve into the Five Domains Model for Welfare Assessment and Monitoring as it applies to horses. Cristina will shift your focus from animal welfare theory to practical and reliable assessment, without losing sight of the equine perspective. You will also learn tips for navigating difficult conversations positively on what is often an emotional and polarizing topic. Finally, Cristina will reveal a user-friendly tool recently developed to achieve a good life for all animals.

Cristina Wilkins is a PhD candidate with the University of New England, investigating the human and horse characteristics influencing the One Welfare outcomes of human-horse interactions. Previously, Cristina honed her science communication skills as publisher and editor of the magazine and media platform Horses and People, and more recently, created an short course for UNE’s Open Learning platform titled Applying the Five Domains Model to the Welfare Assessment of Sport and Recreation Horses

HHRF also invites you to join us on August 21, 2024 at 7:00pm (EST) as Dr. Terry Chase explores using creative arts in our programs. Let’s Do Creative Arts: Expanding EFL/EFP Programs with Experiential Learning

 By the conclusion of this session, participants will have:

  • Identified how creative arts and experiential activity can be an essential component of EFL/EFP programs.
  • Integrated ideas and concepts for inclusion in current and future therapy and non-therapy programs. Experimented with at least activities for program participants of all abilities.

The presenter, Dr. Terry Chase will share an eclectic and integrated variety of tools and activities that can readily be put into practice. The sampler of activities will inspire EFL/EFP practitioners to include creative art practices, individual and group communication skills in their teaching and facilitation. This overview includes activities that have been utilized in a variety of FFL programs developed by the presenter. The session will also address accessible activities for participants of all abilities and provide resources for continued exploration.
